Spring, a Poem

Frozen Hope
Frozen Hope
Source: hyphenbird

Spring is so close that her almost warm breath can be felt on pale

winter white skin; wafting lank hair and whispering green velvety

secrets into a startled ear.

Blossom scented breath breezes past, fills the senses with blissful

silken promises of heat and sweat that excite an imagination cold

from bitter snowy embraces.

Finely crafted hints of a warm future dash past with the speed

of hummingbird wings, challenge snow

boots to retire into dark recesses of closets for

hibernation through the dog days of summer.

Wisps of daydreams dart past my restless mind’s eye

and encourage hope for endless sunny days spent in

hammocks slung low beneath unending

emerald leaves that tinkle tunes and odes to Sol.

But that twirl of a daffodil dance must, alas, wait

in the wallflower line until the clutch of Old Man Winter

releases his passion for ice and tears.

Many gracious thanks for the remembrance,

dear Eastre. It is good to know you slumber still

though buried deep beneath the heart of unrelenting chill.

Great work Hyphen

...so great to hear from you once again Brenda and to allow me this grace of reading your pure poetic magic.

Ironic you wrote this one as I have read today on the last day of January which feels like early spring - with sun and milder temperatures and dry conditions but I am sure all of that will change sometime in February and March - lol - sending you warm wishes and good energy from lake erie time ontario canada 3:19pm

Howdy Hyphenbird - Nice poem to help celebrate springtime anticipation. Here we are at the beginning of February - and the outside temperature is 75 degrees, Fahrenheit. My bride (the gal with the green thumbs) has a lemon tree and an orange tree in the yard, both loaded with small fruit. We are both hoping that there may be no February freeze yet to come.

Oh Hyphen, I can hardly wait for spring. Your poetry is beautiful. It was in the 60's here today. I loved it. I was checking out my flower seeds, shook the envelope and spilled them all over the counter, of course i retrieved them. I was tempted to plant them, but i knew better. Take care my friend...

I loved how each stanza galloped into the next, like hope, like life, like spring! Oh, how I have missed you love, in my life, and am so glad to know you, to claim you as my friend!I hope you have gotten thru the hurricane,I couldn't write you due to my own idiot circumstance, but, with this poem, I see your hope, and joy, and I'm comforted, so much, lovely, lovely poem! Love, lily

This poem certainly feels as effusive as you 'bustin loose' from winter, from yearning to put pen to paper... you have been missed, for this very reason! Brava!

You make me absolutely flushed for Spring... or something? Voted UP & Awesome. Hugs, mar.

Hi Suzette. Thank you very much. I am glad you like the poem. I like winter and love the snow, not that we have had any. But I begin to long for color and that moment when I step barefoot onto new grass. It shouldn't be far away now.

This poem is just chocked full of imagery and sensations. One would have to be in the depths of winter to gain that inspiration I believe. Down here in Texas, there are places along the road where wild Buttercups are already in bloom...they think winter is over but I fear that it is not. We usually get a surprise or two in February and March. Nicely done...up and beautiful! WB
