Spring, a Poem
55
Spring is so close that her almost warm breath can be felt on pale
winter white skin; wafting lank hair and whispering green velvety
secrets into a startled ear.
Blossom scented breath breezes past, fills the senses with blissful
silken promises of heat and sweat that excite an imagination cold
from bitter snowy embraces.
Finely crafted hints of a warm future dash past with the speed
of hummingbird wings, challenge snow
boots to retire into dark recesses of closets for
hibernation through the dog days of summer.
Wisps of daydreams dart past my restless mind’s eye
and encourage hope for endless sunny days spent in
hammocks slung low beneath unending
emerald leaves that tinkle tunes and odes to Sol.
But that twirl of a daffodil dance must, alas, wait
in the wallflower line until the clutch of Old Man Winter
releases his passion for ice and tears.
Many gracious thanks for the remembrance,
dear Eastre. It is good to know you slumber still
though buried deep beneath the heart of unrelenting chill.

Hello Hyphen. I sense there is so much more here than I am grasping. You paint a remarkable picture.
Beautiful imagery. We await.
There I seeth the secrets thou hideth, just as the seasons change and give each other their time in and out of the sun, only to return again the next season more beautiful than ever. So well times and beautiful.
Great work Hyphen
Bless.
beautiful poem with warm feelings. Voted up and Beautiful.
You mention Daffodils Dance, I have just finished a poem with that title, I hope that doesn't a problem, Joyce.
...so great to hear from you once again Brenda and to allow me this grace of reading your pure poetic magic.
Ironic you wrote this one as I have read today on the last day of January which feels like early spring - with sun and milder temperatures and dry conditions but I am sure all of that will change sometime in February and March - lol - sending you warm wishes and good energy from lake erie time ontario canada 3:19pm
Beautiful poem, Hyphenbird! How would we ever be able to bear the winters in our live if we could not look forward to a coming spring?
Voted up and awesome.
Outstanding! Just beautiful. You captured the youth and beauty of spring.
omg! So glad you're safe.
Wow! I'm glad you're safe. Thank your for a lovely poem, it is beautiful.
Lovely poem, Hyphenbird. I can almost smell spring through it.
Very beautiful. You fully captured the spring's beauty. Voted up and beautiful.
Loved your beautiful poem but now I have spring fever much to early. LOL I love how you titled your nice photo as frozen Hope. It reminds us of the upcoming season of warmth and coming out of hiding.
It certainly does feel like spring around here! Sadly it will not last.. GREAT poem that makes me yearn for true spring! Glad to see you're posting! Very beautiful! Voted up!
Great work as usual HB. Hope things are going well for you.

Beautiful promise of hope, especially since you went through so much. It's a blessing to know - Spring will come again.
Howdy Hyphenbird - Nice poem to help celebrate springtime anticipation. Here we are at the beginning of February - and the outside temperature is 75 degrees, Fahrenheit. My bride (the gal with the green thumbs) has a lemon tree and an orange tree in the yard, both loaded with small fruit. We are both hoping that there may be no February freeze yet to come.

Hyp, such a beautiful poem. Here in WV, it has felt like spring for most the winter, so we have been fortunate. Just a few more weeks to go:)
Oh Hyphen, I can hardly wait for spring. Your poetry is beautiful. It was in the 60's here today. I loved it. I was checking out my flower seeds, shook the envelope and spilled them all over the counter, of course i retrieved them. I was tempted to plant them, but i knew better. Take care my friend...
I love this poem Hyphenbird, the anticipation of the approaching spring, you captured it perfectly.
voting up, best wishes Lesley
Six more weeks wait in my neck of the woods. I so look forward to spring!! Thanks for sharing your lovely poem. : )
Your poem makes me yearn for Spring. It's been a fairly easy winter so far but .... just never know what's in store for us as far as weather goes these days.
Oh how beautiful Hyph. An up up and away here without a doubt.
Take care and enjoy your day.
Eddy.
A nature poem to remember if there ever was one. Your poetry palette is as varied as the images this evokes. Almost Spring-like during the day now isn't it Hyph.
I loved how each stanza galloped into the next, like hope, like life, like spring! Oh, how I have missed you love, in my life, and am so glad to know you, to claim you as my friend!I hope you have gotten thru the hurricane,I couldn't write you due to my own idiot circumstance, but, with this poem, I see your hope, and joy, and I'm comforted, so much, lovely, lovely poem! Love, lily
Hyph,
This poem certainly feels as effusive as you 'bustin loose' from winter, from yearning to put pen to paper... you have been missed, for this very reason! Brava!
You make me absolutely flushed for Spring... or something? Voted UP & Awesome. Hugs, mar.
This is so pretty and picturesque... I'm not ready for spring yet because I feel like we haven't had a winter, but you make me want it to hurry near! I love all seasons of the year and the picture you painted just fills me with contentment and yet a quiet excitement for what tomorrow holds. Very very well done!
this is beautiful. I love the internal rhyme and great use of line breaks and description. Astounding! Shared!
Dear Brenda,
Oh this just made me very happy anticipating springtime. So beautiful! Loved this so much.

This poem was so beautiful and fills one with great anticipation for spring. Voted up across the board except for funny.
Hello, Hyphenbird,
Terrific poem. Absolutely terrific.
While reading this piece, I began picturing Spring as a lovely woman for whom I await.
Hi Hyphen: Beautiful poem! Almost spring. I love the images and comparisions you build in this poem. The photo is lovely - frozen daffodils waiting to thaw. I hope the mild winter leads to a beautiful warm spring for you.
This poem is just chocked full of imagery and sensations. One would have to be in the depths of winter to gain that inspiration I believe. Down here in Texas, there are places along the road where wild Buttercups are already in bloom...they think winter is over but I fear that it is not. We usually get a surprise or two in February and March. Nicely done...up and beautiful! WB
Hyphen, I think your poetry is just fine. Just keep writing and find your voice and style
A beautiful poem, you have created wonderful imagery with your words.
I hope all around is getting over the devastation of the hurricane. Nature has a remarkable way of recovering.
a wonderful share H..:) Frank

This is such a beautiful write--it feels fragile to me--the ice of winter--the promise of spring--lovely!
