Gender Selection Abortion, a Growing Trend and Tragedy

Women are the primary focus of this article because they are ultimately the one who decides to carry or terminate a pregnancy. It must be understood that many outside opinions bombard them and influence their decisions. These include husbands, boyfriends, family members, the dictates of society and financial circumstances. Those are recognized however this article is to discuss the growing and alarming rate of abortions based solely on Gender (and minority) considerations.

Procreation is a privilege that humans and animals alike take for granted. Most women can have a baby anytime they choose and even when they don’t choose. Some others desire to become parents but cannot become pregnant and long for the experience.

Yet others are horrified at the thought of having a child grow inside them if it is not exactly perfect. The option to choose the sex of a child is not a science fiction concept of the future, it is here right now.

Previously, amniocentesis was the only option to determine genetics, paternity, sex and race. The sonogram then came on the scene and is used in many cases to allow parents a preview of their baby. Now there is a new and exciting technology. It is called Prenatal Sex Determination and the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association has verified that prenatal sex determination tests are accurate and useful. They can be performed at only five to seven weeks gestation and are almost one hundred percent accurate.

They are not invasive like an amniocentesis and do not present a threat to the fetus or risk the health of the mother. This test is being used for early diagnosis to inform the mother that she is having a girl or a boy. Since the advent of this almost immediate information, abortions have increased proportionately.

A couple aborted twin boys because they already had boys and now desired a girl. Once the test confirmed the sex, the choice to abort was easier because they never had to see a heartbeat or a sonogram with a wriggling little baby. It seems to be easier to murder a child when it is done at only a few weeks pregnant.

Let me make it clear and emphatic that testing does not kill babies. Abortion kills babies. The mother chooses to rid herself of a child that just doesn’t suit her lifestyle or choices. That brings to memory an occurrence related by a friend who worked for an animal rescue. A lovely Akita dog was brought to the shelter because the owner had remodeled her home and the dog didn’t match her new décor.

Are people choosing the sex of their children with the same cold blooded reasoning? Yes, they are and at an alarming rate. Nations such as China, India and others have been exposed for years as targeting female babies and even killing them in horrific ways after they are born. Now America is on the “choose your baby” bandwagon.

The awful avalanche is so prevalent that four states have already enacted legislation making it unlawful to perform an abortion based on the gender of the fetus. Yet it has been determined a violation of “a woman’s right to choose” and the Roe vs Wade statute upheld. Regardless of why a mother (yes, I said mother) chooses to abort (kill) her child, in this country she has the right to do so. It seems the baby does not have the right to live though.

We are living in an age of designer babies. If one can choose a boy or a girl, why not eye color, height, hair color or even skin color? If this sounds like a Nazi experiment, well it was. Tests now determine the possibility of genetic disorders or illnesses and choices are made to continue the pregnancy or to abort.

In France 96% of Downs pregnancies are terminated. In America about 90% are aborted. These facts are staggering and sickening, especially when one considers that these tests are often incorrect.

Parents are to love their children without condition and without discrimination of sex, physical attributes or illnesses. To do less removes the parental element and indeed the heart. If a parent can only love “the perfect child” what happens when the child becomes imperfect? Suppose there is an accident or disease that changes the child. Does the acceptance and love end? It does and it can.

Parents are suing physicians and screening facilities on a regular basis for “wrongful birth” cases. In September 2011, the parents of one disabled child sued and won. This was in the state of Florida. The mother testified on the stand that she would have had an abortion if she had known her son was disabled. He was born without arms and only one leg. They won less than their requested payout. They must somehow live with only 4.5 million dollars. The mother blamed ineffective genetic testing for the fact that he was alive. She stated she is unable to love him because his condition is unacceptable and abhorrent. The little boy is three years old now and she still says she would have killed him.

Others have sued because doctors did not recommend an abortion and felt they would have decided upon an abortion had they been received more information about potential handicaps. This is discrimination at its highest level. It is flat out saying a girl’s life is less valuable than a boy or a child with autism should be killed but one with freckles is okay. Is a sick baby less loved than a healthy one? Is an ugly baby not worthy of life and love? Sadly that is the case with many parents.

A mother carrying fraternal twins (in separate placental sacs) decided to have one baby aborted because of a heart defect. In a horrible mix-up the healthy baby was aborted by mistake. She later had the sick baby aborted also.

In 2010, seven babies in the UK were aborted because they had a cleft palate. This is an easy repair and most people never know one was born with the cleft at all. But it is, frankly, ugly and people want beautiful babies.

The number of minority women getting abortions compared to Caucasian women is disproportionate in America. Black women are three times more likely to get an abortion. Hispanic women are twice as likely to abort their baby. That is population control. Advertisements for abortion clinics are more frequent and prominent in lower income and minority communities. It is an insidious plan to reduce and control the population, especially the girls who grow up and produce more "undesirables".

So I suppose I should not be shocked that people kill babies because they are the wrong sex. Yet I am very surprised and saddened indeed. Abortion for any reason is wrong, immoral, unethical and an expression of hatred. It is a legal genocide and a crime against humanity. Abortion based on the desire for a boy or a girl opens a door that we should never walk through. The natural ratio of male and female births is being skewered and will result in a disproportionate, gender unbalanced world.

The United States Census of 1990 showed that women made up 51.3 percent of the population but the 2000 Census showed the percentage of women in America down to only 50.9 percent. This could be reflective of sex selection abortions. Immigrants from countries where boys are the preferred choice, continue to abort female babies and reduce the number of women in America and indeed across the globe.

The natural ratio of male to female human births is 105 males for every 100 females. That number is so imbalanced that in some countries there are 112 boys born for every 100 girls. China recordings reflect an even more horrendous number, 121-100. This is a staggering and frightening trend.

A June 2011 article in the Wall Street Journal offers a staggering statistic and suggests that more than 163 million girls worldwide have been murdered through sex selection abortion. This increases the average violence against women as men have a harder time finding female companionship and wives. Economics must be considered as bride prices rise and mail order brides are becoming common in countries such as Vietnam.

Women are becoming more exploited and many are kidnapped or bought from their families to supply the never ending sex traffic industry.

Women fought for the right to kill their babies and now they are abusing that “right” even more. No longer is abortion confined to an unwanted child or because the pregnancy presents risk to the mother’s health. Now it is accepted because a child might have an abnormality or illness; because it might be a boy or a girl. Didn’t we go to war because Hitler was killing people because he didn’t like their religion, appearance and lifestyle? We have become just like him, killing the innocents for reasons-for excuses-exclusive to our own selfish wants and needs.

Gender and race selection abortions must end. Abortion for any reason must end. It is murder of the most helpless and should be intolerable to any human being.

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked (Psalm 82:3-4).

Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, "But we knew nothing about this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done? (Proverbs 24:11-12).

God does not want any woman who has had an abortion to suffer guilt when she is repentant. To realize the wrong is the first step to being forgiven for it. As Jesus died for us all, He stands ready to comfort and cleanse a grieving woman's heart. How can one receive that?

Acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God. He came to earth as a human baby, lived a sinless life, was crucified and died for our own sins and reestablished our relationship with God the Father. He was brought back to life by God and ascended to Heaven where He reigns as Lord.

Jesus said in John Chapter 14, "¹² Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. ¹³ And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

He will forgive you and take away the pain. God loves you and desires you to turn to Him. It is possible. He did it for millions of people including myself and will for you. Nothing is too much for Him to forgive and forget, wiping clean the spirit of a truly repentant heart.
