Forever Beloved-Death of A Son
63
A Mother Never Forgets
She walks hard on the shards of her heart as her womb cramps with solitary misery and the joyful memory of his birth
I note that she carries her sorrow and bitterness with pride and pain while screaming at the scales of injustice that are rusted, weighted with her tears
And oh! Gray grief makes her fragile as Grandmother’s yellowed lace and her hate is strong as her life and long as his death
My sister spills her blood and the flow is pale as silvered moonlight on a churchyard monument
She will read his name forever in a tattoo that is carved on her pupils and glows in the darkness beneath when she closes her eyes
She blindly stares and prays to see while she breathes
Beloved-Beloved-Beloved

I wrote this in 2002 for a friend when her son was killed.

One never forgets a child or a parent that has returned to God and heaven whether it be in time or prematurely.
Can't express what this made me feel, Hyphenbird, what a superb piece of work.
I thank you for sharing it with us.
???
Thanks for sharing this powerful piece. The loss of a child is truly never forgotten, the grief unbearable. We however take comfort in the knowledge that it shall be well.
Of the sorrows we suffer, none must compare to the loss of a child. The best homage a friend could give; and you Hyph, one of the best to give it.
beautifully written-losing a child would have to be like hell on earth-how do you go on after that? I guess the support and love of family and friends like you make it more bearable but you could never forget.
Nice to meet you Hyphenbird, This is really beautiful and a fine tribute to your friend. I'm glad you decided not to leave your work lock away in a notebook!!
This is beautifully sad. To lose a child must be unbearable. Thank you for sharing your gift.
You are most welcome and thank you for the follow.
How sad, how poignant, I felt your pain. I have lost and I have loved, losing is the saddest hurt of all. A tear fell, my cheek is wet, I am moved. Peace
This really pulled at my heart strings. I thank you for sharing your tribute poem for a mother who has lost a son. I am only half breathing right now. God Bless:)
I had to come back to read again...My Sister Mary just lost her Son Tom. The pain is horrible. She is not the same. Your poetry is touching. Thank you.
One word, Hyph: Wow. The imagery here is unforgettable. This is really good.
And I hope your friend has found some measure of peace with the passage of time.
