Forever Beloved-Death of A Son

A Mother Never Forgets

She walks hard on the shards of her heart as her womb cramps with solitary misery and the joyful memory of his birth

I note that she carries her sorrow and bitterness with pride and pain while screaming at the scales of injustice that are rusted, weighted with her tears

And oh! Gray grief makes her fragile as Grandmother’s yellowed lace and her hate is strong as her life and long as his death

My sister spills her blood and the flow is pale as silvered moonlight on a churchyard monument

She will read his name forever in a tattoo that is carved on her pupils and glows in the darkness beneath when she closes her eyes

She blindly stares and prays to see while she breathes

Beloved-Beloved-Beloved

Ohhh this was a bit gut wrenching! I felt the hurt and pain in this poem

"She will read his name forever in a tattoo that is carved on her pupils and glows in the darkness beneath when she closes her eyes"

One never forgets a child or a parent that has returned to God and heaven whether it be in time or prematurely.

Thanks for sharing this powerful piece. The loss of a child is truly never forgotten, the grief unbearable. We however take comfort in the knowledge that it shall be well.

PK2010, the pain never fades. I shall never forget my friend's face. Even when she smiled, her eyes were full of sorrow. Glad you found this. Thanks for the read and comment.

Of the sorrows we suffer, none must compare to the loss of a child. The best homage a friend could give; and you Hyph, one of the best to give it.

jt  14 months ago

beautifully written-losing a child would have to be like hell on earth-how do you go on after that? I guess the support and love of family and friends like you make it more bearable but you could never forget.

Alastar, you are too kind. But I will take it! Thanks so much.

jt, a mother carries it every day just like she did when the child was carried in the womb the first nine months. Thank you for your faithfulness.

Nice to meet you Hyphenbird, This is really beautiful and a fine tribute to your friend. I'm glad you decided not to leave your work lock away in a notebook!!

Fossillady, thank you kindly. I used to dispose of pages and pages of my work. No more. If one word can bring comfort, joy or gladness of any sort to a person I want it out there. Thanks for the read and comment.

Thank you always. The time that we had to see that look on our friend's face was heartbreaking. It was unbearable for her indeed. She has never been the same!

Thank you for your kindness and great comment.

How sad, how poignant, I felt your pain. I have lost and I have loved, losing is the saddest hurt of all. A tear fell, my cheek is wet, I am moved. Peace

saddlerider, I thank you humbly. The pain of loss never ends but the heart beats and we breathe. At times I though my friend would crumble and I with her. Thank you for reading and the great comment.

One word, Hyph: Wow. The imagery here is unforgettable. This is really good.

And I hope your friend has found some measure of peace with the passage of time.

Hello mollymeadows. She actually did receive peace a few years ago and let go of some pain. Part of her sorrow was because the woman who hit and killed her son never even said "I am sorry" or anything. My friend created a lovely memorial in her garden and put in a pool because her son always loved to swim. It all helped her to feel closer to him. I am so pleased you like the poem. It is very important to me. Thank you very much.
